An intimate conversation with James Carling and Manuela Zaretti-Carling about Limoncello and how / why they started their award winning Ventura Limoncello.
I met James Carling at a Bock Festival earlier this year and was intrigued by someone in California making a Limoncello, and pouring at a beer festival! Now a few years ago I was introduced to this wonderful aperitif by a good friend, and then of course we had to make our own which we shared with friends and relatives during the Holiday season. Ok, so that’s the back story, but, once I tasted James and Manuela’s Ventura Limoncello… my knees went weak. Now this was like laying on a soft cool bed after a hard day of work! What we had made and what I’ve previously had didn’t even compare… I quickly arranged for a visit to their facility to have a chat with James and Manuela.
I showed up at the “office” and first chatted with James and Manuela while I set up. After a short tour of the facility we sat down for an interview. We chatted for almost an hour so I had to do a little editing. What I came away with is that they are hard a working, passionate couple with a great sense of humor. Oh, and they really know how to make Limoncello!
